About this activity

Discover Casablanca – A City of Contrasts

Casablanca may not be Morocco’s most historic city, but it offers a fascinating mix of modernity, culture, and architecture. Unlike traditional Moroccan cities, its charm lies in its Art Deco heritage and urban dynamism.

The Old Medina
Rebuilt in 1770 after the Lisbon earthquake, the Medina is not known for its architecture but for its vibrant daily life. Wander its narrow alleys lined with artisan shops, from the United Nations Square to the Sqala fortress and the sanctuary of Sidi el Kairouani.

Mohammed V Square
Built in 1920 under the French protectorate, this square is the heart of modern Casablanca. Surrounded by elegant buildings like the Palace of Justice and the French Consulate, it showcases a harmonious blend of traditional Moroccan and European styles. At night, the monumental fountain offers a colorful light and water show.

Notre-Dame de Lourdes Church
A rare Catholic church in Morocco, built in the 1950s. Modest outside, it impresses inside with 800m² of stunning stained glass by French artist Gabriel Loire.

Arab League Park
Founded in 1919, this green space stretches from the Old Medina to the Maârif district. Once a French-style garden, it is now being renovated to include new fountains, a 700-space underground parking, and modern urban amenities.

United Nations Square
Once called “Place de France,” this central square links the Medina to the business district. Designed in 1915 and later modernized, it’s set to become a major transport hub for buses and trams.

Hassan II Mosque
One of the largest mosques in the world, completed in 1993. Two-thirds of it is built over the ocean. With a 200m-high minaret—the tallest globally—it blends traditional Moroccan craftsmanship with modern technology. It’s one of the few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslims.

The Habous Quarter (New Medina)
Built between 1918–1955 to house migrants, this district combines Moroccan style with modern urban planning. It’s now a clean and organized market full of handicrafts, spices, books, and traditional clothes. Nearby, the former Mahkama du Pacha—a beautiful Hispano-Moorish palace—and the Royal Palace add a regal touch to the area.

Royal Palace of Casablanca
Located in the Habous district, this palace was built in the 1920s in Arab-Muslim style. Though not open to the public, its impressive gate and lush gardens reflect its historical importance, including visits from global figures like Pope John Paul II.

Anfa District
The most upscale area in Casablanca, once the site of the 1943 Allied Conference. Today, it features luxury villas, golf courses, high-end restaurants, and Anfa Place mall. It’s a symbol of Casablanca’s elite lifestyle and Art Deco heritage.

La Corniche (Ain Diab)
Casablanca’s seaside promenade is a hub for nightlife and leisure, with beach clubs, sea-water pools, restaurants, and lounges. It’s ideal for an evening walk or a day by the ocean—without the waves!
